Frideswide Square
Currently, the road layout in Frideswide Square is confusing, dangerous, inconvenient, and particularly unpleasant for pedestrians. The County Council is committed to improving the situation if funds become available.
The Council has looked at a number of options, but rejected a radical proposal from Cyclox’s Richard Mann to divert some traffic through Beckett Street. Two possible designs, a "Boulevard" and an "Oval" were presented to "stakeholders" for comment.

OxPA expressed a preference for the "Boulevard", seeing the central "Oval" as likely to degenerate into dead and hostile space. OxPa takes the view that for pedestrians the "Boulevard", subject to certain provisos, would be an improvement on the present situation, but Cyclox rejected both designs as dangerous for cyclists. See the Cyclox website for their detailed comments.
On March 13th 2012 the County Council Cabinet decided to proceed with the "Boulevard" design.
