Email to Oxfordshire County Council. March 4th 2009
Oxford Pedestrians Association
continues to support full pedestrianization of Queen Street, and therefore
welcomes this first step towards achieving that.
However the Association is also concerned to ensure that people's walks to
and from bus stops are kept to a minimum and that waiting facilities at stops
are of a high standard. Therefore it is hoped that the replacement stops will
all be fitted with comfortable shelters complete with perches and electronic
bus information indicators. Local area maps should also be provided at stops,
to help those arriving in central Oxford to make their way to their destinations
on foot.
We are also concerned about bus connectivity. Bus journeys across Oxford,
and central area interchange, are currently far from adequate and could become
a deterrent to bus use. This would reduce the ability of bus services to provide
attractive alternatives to the car for journeys between the suburbs. A really
positive and welcome outcome from the Transform Oxford proposals would be
the re-establishment of bus links across the city.
